This species in India is distributed in NE India especially in Meghalaya, West Bengal, can be found forest, caves, man-made canals, mangroves, and some unusual non-aquatic subterrestrial habitats. It is found in large colonies, often with other bats species that belong to genera Hipposideros, Myotis, and Miniopterus. The colonies may contain 200-300 mature individuals. It is an insectivorous bat species feeding on beetles, bugs, flies, and moths.

According to IUCN assessment, the population of this species may be fragmented and decreasing over most of its distribution. There are no estimates of its population, however, the habitats it occupies are greater threat. The threats are mainly anthropogenic such as mining, urbanization, logging, commercial development. Recreational activities in many of its habitats also cause equal amount of threat. Climatic threats such as strom and flooding are thought to cause the loss of adult mature individuals in some subpopulations.
