According to IUCN Red List assessment, population of this spcies is decreasing overall and very little is knonw about its population. there no recent estimates of its population but some previous studies claim its population to beless than 10,000 mature individuals globally. In nicobars it is estimated to have a population between 300 and 500 mature individuals. The population of this species is fragmented which makes it more vulnerable to habitat loss which is a primary threat to its survival in the wild.
