It is also known as Mishmi Flying Squirrel. It is distributed in a very small locality of about 30,000 sq. km. in China, Tibet and NE India (especially in Mishmi hills in Arunachal Pradesh). Very little is known about its habits and ecology. It is a nocturnal and arboreal species that inhabits moderate elevations in forests.. It feeds on plant material, fruits, tender leaves in the canopy.

According to IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is threanened. There are no estimates of its population available. Due to its restricted distribution, the population is more vulnerable to smallest of the changes. Currently, it faces threats that are mainly anthropogenic such as logging, commercial development, road constructions, urbanization, mining, and occasional hunting.
