This species is endemic to southern India, found only in Kolar district of Karnataka. It dwells in caves of tropical dry shrubland.

According to IUCN Red List assessment, population of this species is decreassing at an alarming rate. Its population is restricted to only a small locality and estimated to be between 150 and 200 mature individuals. threat to its survival come mainly from habitat destruction owing to mining in the surrounding areas of caves it inhabits.
