It is an endemic species, currently known only from Salem District of Tamil Nadu in Eastern Ghats where it inhabits rocky scrublands. Nothing else is known about its habits and habitat.

There are no estimates of its population, but it is presumed to be very small, having very restricted distribution. Threats to its survival come from habitat destruction by agricultural expansion, logging and mining.
